Virtus Skills coaching for teenagers

Teach your child to think clearly, and to be heard.

Virtus is eight sessions of skills coaching for teenagers. Your child learns to break down hard problems, question what they read, and make a case that lands, on paper and out loud.

Is this your child?

Sound familiar?

If you’ve thought any of these about your child, Virtus was built for them.

  • They’re bright, but their answers ramble.
  • They believe the first thing they read online.
  • Big decisions get made on gut feel, or left to you.
  • They have good ideas and struggle to get anyone to listen.
  • Group projects end with them doing all of the work, or none of it.

What changes

What we work on together

The shifts Virtus is built around, described the way you would notice them at home.

  • Stares at a big problem and stallsBreaks it into parts they can work on
  • Takes claims at face valueAsks for the evidence and checks the source
  • Knows the answer but can’t explain itBuilds an argument people can follow
  • Avoids the difficult conversationNegotiates and holds their ground, fairly

How it works

Eight sessions, four core skills.

Between sessions

Between sessions your child uses the week’s skill in real life: on a news story, a school assignment, a decision at home. Then they teach it to someone else. If they can explain it, they own it.

  1. 01

    Dissect

Breaking a problem into parts, and making sure it is the right problem before solving it.

  2. 02

    Interrogate

Testing claims like a prosecutor. What is the evidence, and what would change their mind?

  3. 03

    Quantify

Reading numbers without being fooled: averages, probability, and charts that mislead.

  4. 04

    Decide

Making decisions under uncertainty, and spotting the biases that push them off course.

  5. 05

    Invent

Creative problem-solving. Finding patterns and building ideas within real constraints.

  6. 06

    Investigate

Research methods. Designing a fair test and separating signal from noise.

  7. 07

    Command

Communication. Structuring an argument and reading the audience, in writing and in speech.

  8. 08

    Negotiate

Working with people. Negotiation, group dynamics, and leading fairly.

What they keep

The Virtus Journal

A working record of your child’s thinking. Every week they log real problems they broke down, claims they checked, and something they taught someone else. You can watch their reasoning get sharper on the page.

  • Daily spot

One skill they noticed in the real world today, used well or badly.

  • Problem log

Real problems from their week, broken down with the tools from each session.

  • Claim tracker

Things they heard and checked instead of accepting. Source, evidence, verdict.

  • Debate notes

Arguments they had or watched. What the real disagreement was, and who argued better.

  • Case study file

One real case a week from news, business or history, taken apart.

  • Teach-back log

What they taught someone, and what teaching it showed them.

Your child’s mentor

Who works with your child

One mentor, from the first session to the last. They get to know how your child thinks, so each session picks up where the last one left off.

The thinking behind Virtus

Four core skills, each taught the same way: learn the idea, spot it in the world, use it on a real problem, then teach it to someone else.
